I am new to mealworms, but I think I did my research and have a good set up. From all the pupae I ordered, less than 10 turned into beetles. I am still trying to troubleshoot, and it might have been the shipping.
I thought I was getting mealworms, but when I opened the box it was actually pupa. And a lot of them. I also had a LOT of dead ones. I had to physically count and test each one to see how many were alive. Picking up 500+ pupa with tweezers was very time consuming but I counted close enough to 500 live ones to satisfy me. I was disappointed at first because I thought I received all dead ones. There were actually some live mealworms as well. All in all, I’m pretty satisfied. It was actually fun sorting them all. I even had 1 beetle! I took all the dead ones and put them in a bag to feed the birds.
More mealworms than pupae
Got a lot of dried up black ones. Not sure how this is going to go..
