💡 Colony Care & Exotic Husbandry Instructions
Cubaris are a tropical species and require a bit more specific care than standard isopods to keep them thriving:
- The Golden Rule—High Humidity: They require a high-humidity environment. Maintain a deep moisture gradient where at least 70% to 80% of the enclosure’s substrate is kept consistently damp (never soggy) with plenty of pure sphagnum moss.
- Deep Substrate & Limestone: Provide a deep (3″+), nutrient-rich organic soil layer mixed with crushed rotting wood and decaying hardwood leaf litter. Because they are native to limestone caves, they highly benefit from a constant calcium source—keep a piece of cuttlebone or limestone chips in their damp corner at all times.
- Dietary Supplements: While they graze on organic enclosure waste, Cubaris love supplemental dietary treats. Offer them small pinches of specialized isopod powdered diets, dried shrimp, or fish flakes once a week to boost reproduction.
